DURMUN is the most prestigious conference in NE England due to the standard of debate and stunning historical and architectural sites (namely the Durham Castle & Cathedral, a UNESCO WHC). Whether you are a newcomer or a seasoned delegate, The Durham University United Nations Society is confident you will enjoy, learn from, and fondly remember DURMUN 2020.

A letter from the Secretary-General of DURMUN 2019

Dear All,

On behalf of the Durham University UN Society (DUUNS), it is my pleasure to welcome you to DURMUN 2019, the latest instalment of a long line of prestigious conferences Durham has held over the years. Whether you have experienced past Durham MUN’s, or are newcomers, this upcoming conference promises debate, socials, and fun aplenty.

The 2019 committee line-up will include the International Court of Justice (ICJ), the UN Security Council (UNSC), the UN Disarmament and International Security Committee (DISEC, the First Committee of the UN General Assembly), the World Health Organisation (WHO), and the UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC). Clearly, these will cater to delegates of all levels of experience.

Those of you who have attended last DURMUNs will remember the vast array of socials on offer. Fortunately with regards to Brexit, within this year or the next DURMUN attendees may socialise in not the worst club in the European Union, but merely the worst club in Europe. DURMUN 2019 will feature a luxurious welcome dinner, and then a casual night on the first full-debate day to relax and socialise with fellow participants outside a formalised committee setting.

I look forward to meeting and working with all of you. Please do not hesitate to contact me or the society with any queries.

Panos Maniatis (Secretary-General, DURMUN 2019)

Panel 2

Hi from the Mondial Team!

The Mondial is the official newspaper of DurMUN. Starting out as a blog, The Mondial has developed as a platform to address those issues impacting the UN and the international community through journalism.

Now, DurMUN 2020 offers an opportunity to take MUN writing to another level: a dedicated student press corps. Model United Nations, as the name states, is a place to model, to experiment, to challenge yourself in new ways. We want to expand on this idea and make the conference a space for the simulation of policy-making as well as the simulation of journalistic environments.

What that looks like? A team of engaged writers, photographers, and graphic designers, reporting on the DurMUN conference – its themes, its committees, and its debates – with a print edition for each day of the conference, and keeping The Mondial connected to its blog roots with website articles throughout the year.
